The most beautiful book landed in my mailbox last week, courtesy of Family Christian in exchange for my thoughts on the book. And also a $10 gift certificate to Family Christian. But more about that in a minute. This book was full of essays by some of the most popular Christian Women Bloggers on the world wide web. Names like Lisa Jo Baker, Ann Voskamp, Tsh Oxenreider, Melanie Shankle, Emily P. Freeman, Bonnie Gray and more are included in the pages of the book. And Kayla Aimee. She gets her own sentence because she’s the only one I know in real life.
So I sat down and popped it open, and first had to look for the essay by Kayla Aimee. It’s not that we’re besties or anything like that, but she’s in the MOPS group that I’m involved in and also, she has this most awesome hashtag that keeps me in stitches: #stuffscarlettesays. And when you have met that precocious little Scarlette and heard her sweet little airy voice they take on a whole new meaning. Also, I’m not in MOPS because I have a preschooler. Nope. Not even a little bit. I’m there to mentor. It blows my mind, but there it is.
Before I go any further, I feel the need to disclose that apparently I have become a crier lately. I thank the last season of Parenthood for reducing me to this highly-mocked-by-my-husband emotional state. But anyway…Kayla’s essay, a story from her days with micro-preemie Scarlette in the NICU was a beautiful testimony of faith even when it feels impossible. And I cried. Of course.
And then I flipped through that book some more. It was so fun to see so many of my favorite bloggers gathered into one place, resting in my lap to peruse away from the screen. The stories, compiled by Dawn Camp and complemented with her beautiful photography, were truly the best of the best from my favorite places on the web.
If you really love reading the blogs of these amazing women, or you just are in the stage of life where you can only read in 5 minute increments while hiding in the bathroom (I’ve been there…there’s no shame in it!), go ahead and buy yourself this book. Or you can enter the giveaway below to win the book PLUS a $10 gift certificate to spend at Family Christian (good online or in stores).
